本片根据1852年美国作家梅尔维尔小说改编（应该说是“启发”），讲述某富家子弟皮埃尔跟守寡的母亲一起住在乡村别墅，他正打算跟女友露西结婚，却冒出一个名叫伊萨贝尔的女子，声称自己是他的同父异母妹妹。他不得不跟伊萨贝尔搬到巴黎，并开始乱伦之恋。

Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble. 叉烧（郑丹瑞 饰）是一个不务正业的小青年，整体装神弄鬼骗钱。一天，叉烧的一个租客——在夜总会当妈妈桑的大B（叶德娴 饰）的家里来了一个客人，她美丽的外甥女云云（邱淑贞 饰）。大B用尽千方百计将美丽的云云哄到夜总会当舞女，想着从她身上大赚一笔。一个晚上，黑社会老大炮哥到夜 总会消遣时遇到了云云，炮哥垂涎她的美色，找人把云云捉走了。怎知谁也料不到云云这个弱女子竟然拥有超能力——会喷火，关键时候她用自己的超能力脱身了。不久叉烧就得知了云云的这个本领，于是，一个坏主意计上心头……

NJ（吴念真）是个很有原则的生意人，同妻子敏敏（金燕玲）、女儿婷婷（李凯莉）、儿子洋洋（张杨洋）以及外婆住在台北某所普通公寓里。小舅子的一场麻烦婚礼过后，因为外婆突然中风昏迷，他迎来更加混乱的日子。敏敏公司、家里两头跑，时常感觉自己要被耗空；婷婷一直为外婆的中风内疚，恋爱谈到中途发现自己不过是替代品；NJ更是麻烦重重，公司面临破产，他又不愿放下别人眼里一文不值的自尊。一家人里，似乎只有洋洋没有烦恼，他平静地用照相机拍着各种人的背面，帮他们长出另一双眼睛，然而，洋洋简简单单的一句话，道出更深的悲凉。
