The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart. Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory? n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in. What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts. On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired. One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places. Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.

迷失太空
海瑟·格拉汉姆,威廉·赫特,米密·罗杰斯,杰克·约翰逊,莱西·沙伯特,加里·奥德曼,马特·勒布朗公元22世纪，因为人口过度膨胀、过度开发、环境极度恶化、食物也消耗殆尽。人类想要存活下去，就必须要到宇宙中去寻找新的可以栖身的星球。因此制造了一艘当时最先进的太空飞船，去考察发现的一颗可能适宜人类生存的星球。罗伯逊（威廉·赫特 William Hurt 饰）一家被选中担负起了这次探索使命，他们将用10年的时间前往阿尔法星球。可是，这次担负起全人类命运的任务却有反对的声音，部分邪恶势力妄图阻止这次任务。所以，当罗伯逊一家驾驶太空船刚进入太空的预定轨道时，反对派史密斯博士暗中进行破坏，导致飞船脱离的正常的轨道迫降到了一颗不知名的星球上。飞船上邪恶势力的阻挠，不知名星球上的种种危机，如何才能重新设定新的航线……各种问题困惑着罗伯逊一家，他们真的就此迷失太空，无法到达目的地了吗？人类的命运将何去何从？

冈田茉莉子,松田优作,鼻肇,乔山中,岩城滉一,三船敏郎,鹤田浩二,竹下景子,伴淳三郎,高泽顺子,范文雀,夏八木勋,长门裕之,珍妮八田,坂口良子,大泷秀治,佐藤蛾次郎,北林谷荣,西川峰子,铃木瑞穗,峰岸彻,地井武男,和田浩治,深作欣二死于东京皇家饭店电梯里的美国黑人青年被人发现后，警方展开调查，从死者遗物中，知晓其名叫焦尼，并推断其来日目的是为找寻生母。根据种种线索，警方来到某温泉，发现知情人已被杀害，但还是知晓了知名服装设计师八杉恭子（冈田茉莉子）当年曾与一美国黑人士兵在此同居之事，遂派警官栋居（松田优作）前去美国向纽约警察肖夫坦（乔治•肯尼迪）求证。 求证过程中，栋居陷入历史记忆与民族情结中，几欲将眼前的美国人尤其肖夫坦与当年在日本犯下罪行的刽子手混为一谈，但终回复理智完成了任务，将八杉恭子圈定为凶手，而八杉恭子不过也是历史的受害者。
