民初时代国家动荡不安，军阀割据导致民不聊生。曹云(林青霞饰)是大军阀曹将军的女儿，也是一个爱国者。但是不愿见到父亲帮助袁世凯以国家的名义向外国银行借贷巨款，让国家的财务更雪上加霜，于是偷偷与革命人士联络。但是一边是国家，一边是父亲也让曹云不知如何取舍而陷入内心的挣扎。白妞(叶倩文饰)从小在戏班春和班长大，被戏班主的父亲（午马饰）当作丫环使，痴迷唱戏的她一直希望登台表演，却没有机会；湘红(钟楚红饰)是一位贪财的歌妓，趁某军阀逃跑时偷走其家中一大箱珠宝，却误打误撞让珠宝运进了春和班里。这三位在姻缘巧合下结识，透过这三位主角的生命交错，共同谱出一段爱国传奇......

Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
